To start the game, players must select seven cards to make their starting deck. These cards can be selected using the left and right arrow keys and confirmed with the Z key. Once the deck is complete, the game begins.

The main objective of the game is to move the player piece from its starting location to the staircase. However, there are often obstacles in the way that require players to use their cards. Cards can be selected by pressing the Z key, which opens the Deck Menu. From here, players can select "Draw Cards" to draw the next three cards from the deck. Once the cards are displayed, players can select one using the left and right arrow keys and confirm their selection with the Z key. The selected card can then be moved using the arrow keys and placed by pressing the Z key. Once a card is placed, it cannot be returned to the deck.

The game features different types of room cards, including rooms with special features such as hearts that replenish HP, chests that offer new cards, and monsters that must be defeated. Certain cards cannot be played onto the board and instead perform special functions when played. There are four types of these cards, and a description is displayed on-screen whenever they can be selected.

To win the game, players must reach Level 9 and pick up the Crown. However, players must be careful not to run out of HP from fighting too many monsters or run out of cards in their deck with no moves left to make.
